alea rae, album art
When Alea approached me, I didn’t have a particular “look” in mind, but rather, decided to let the sound of their music inform the design.
In their sparse music, I felt palpable sense of longing, isolation, and beauty. I really wanted the imagery and typography to reflect that feeling.
Aside from the album cover portrait, all photos were taken by me on a chilly winter morning.
The images were used in several deliverables including track thumbnails, marketing pieces, and store banners
Other marketing materials included social media banners, download code cards, and event posters put up along major streets in downtown Vancouver.
I’m pleased with the final product, as it’s simple and evocative. Before one listens to the sparse, acoustic music of Alea Rae, they’ve been primed by the imagery.
If I were designing it today, I might have gone a little heavier on some of the type's weights, but ultimately it was a successful album launch.
